Effective October 18, 2004, America West Airlines will no longer confirm advance seat assignments for unticketed reservations. Advance seat assignments will only be confirmed once a booking has been ticketed, regardless of the channel of distribution.

US airlines, EPA agree on drinking water sampling plan
November 10 - Seven weeks after the US Environmental Protection Agency claimed that random tests showed that a large number of passenger airlines served water that violated federal clean water standards, the agency and the Air Transport Assn. reached agreement on a joint plan to "strengthen existing protocols governing the sampling and disinfection of airline drinking water."
NWA pilot pay cut will save company $265 million annually

Cendant Targets Business Travelers With Ramada Upgrade
November 10 - Cendant Hotel Group this week announced a repositioning of its Ramada brand to make the midprice chain more appealing to business travelers. Cendant said substandard hotels would leave the system, though the company declined to quantify how many properties that might entail. There are more than 900 Ramadas in the system, the vast majority of which are in the United States.

November 8 - The Transportation Security Administration next week once again will allow airports to employ private screening companies, even though the Department of Homeland Security in the past two months has made public several reports describing training and performance inconsistencies among airport screeners.
