Northwest warns of Chapter 11 filing if labor cost savings not achieved
July 27, 2005 -- Northwest recorded a net loss of $225 million for the second quarter ended June 30, which included a net one-time gain of $54 million primarily related to the company's sale of shares of Prudential Financial. MORE

Amtrak is adding more Acela Express roundtrips between Washington, D.C., New York and Boston next week.
July 28, 2005 -- Beginning Monday, August 1 Amtrak will operate nine weekday roundtrips between Washington, D.C. and New York and three weekday roundtrips between Boston, New York and Washington. This increases current weekday New York-Washington service by three roundtrips and Boston-Washington service by 2 roundtrips. MORE

TSA To Shuffle Nation's Airport Screeners
July 29, 2005 -- The U.S. government will reallocate its 45,000 passenger and baggage screeners among some of the nation's airports to more accurately reflect changing commercial air traffic patterns, according to a report issued this week by the Transportation Security Administration. MORE

Reorganization items drag UAL further into the red in second quarter
July 29, 2005 -- Hefty special charges overshadowed an improved operating performance at United Airlines during the second quarter as parent UAL Corp. reported a loss of $1.43 billion for the three months ended June 30 net of $1.39 billion in one-time reorganization items.In the year-ago period, UAL had a net loss of $247 million, a figure that included $144 million in reorganization items. Excluding one-time items in both periods, the company reduced its loss to $26 million from a deficit of $103 million in 2004. MORE

AMTRAK - New, More Convenient Schedules Between New York and Florida
July 28, 2005 -- Beginning Monday August 1, Amtrak's daily Silver Service trains will operate on new schedules between New York and Miami, creating more desirable arrival and departure times in several cities along the trains' routes and improving connections to trains traveling to other areas of the country. Amtrak Service Alert: Southbound Passengers Traveling to Maryland and Washington D.C.

Amtrak passengers may notice a slight temporary change in the schedule for southbound trains traveling to Aberdeen, Baltimore, BWI, New Carrollton, and Washington Union Station, starting July 9 through and including Aug. 19.

Due to scheduled track improvements to the Susquehanna River Bridge, arrival times for these southbound trains have been adjusted to accommodate anticipated delays of from 5 to 10 minutes.

Northbound trains are not affected by this slight schedule change.

Amtrak Increases Family Minivan and SUV Capacity on the Popular Auto Train
July 26, 2005 -- Amtrak has increased the vehicle capacity of its popular Auto Train between Northern Virginia and Florida and may now accommodate as many as 120 minivans or SUVs on a single train. Previously, the maximum number of minivans and SUVs that could be accommodated was 29. MORE
