strike poised to disrupt air traffic

BA,
Unite ready to resume talks to avert strikes
British Airways and the
Unite union said on Friday they were willing to hold
talks as early as today to avert the threat of further
strike action by cabin crew in a dispute over pay
and conditions.
Unite, which represents
90 percent of BA's 12,000 cabin crew, planned to start
balloting members next Tuesday over possible walkouts
beginning on August 3. The union had given BA until
the start of the ballot period to demonstrate it was

Lufthansa
and its pilots settle pay dispute
Germany's
Lufthansa and its pilots have settled a bitter pay
dispute through arbitration, fending off the prospect
of further strikes, the airline and the pilot union
said on Thursday. Lufthansa agreed to guarantee job
security and pilots accepted a salary freeze until
March 2011, Cockpit union spokesman Joerg Handwerg

Airport extending measures to reduce runway delays
A plan
introduced earlier this year to reduce runway delays
at New York's JFK Airport will be extended through
summer. "The so-called 'metering scheme' was
introduced earlier this year to mitigate potential
delays during the closure for repair of one of the
airport runways but was set to expire June 30," Dow
