United Continental Holdings, Inc. Announce Trans-Pacific Joint Venture with ANA

This venture connects 295 U.S. cities, 43 Japanese cities, and 11 routes between the two countries with nearly 120 flights per week, and provides more choices for customers, additional fare and schedule options, and seamless booking on itineraries that combine U.S. flight segments on United or Continental; trans-Pacific segments on ANA, United or Continental flights; and flights within Japan on ANA. The carriers also are coordinating fares and schedules for travel to and from certain other points in Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. Read more

Westward Ho! Regan National Bill Would Set Off Battle for Airport Slots

As local business travelers already know, direct trips to western cities from Washington’s Regan National Airport are few and far between. By law, nonstop flights to and DCA are limited to a maximum 1,250 miles, though lawmakers from the West have successfully lobbied for a limited number of exceptions and are working on more. The latest rankings of the world's largest scheduled airlines for Apr 2011 reveals further change at the top, as some airlines expand capacity levels aggressively, while others cut back. American Airlines Starts Los Angeles-Shanghai Service

American Airlines and its regional affiliate American Eagle today launched a significant service expansion from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with 10 new destinations, including new daily nonstop service to Shanghai. Read more

SAA Starts Nonstop New York-Johannesburg Service

Effective May 1, 2011, South African Airways will offer round-trip nonstop service, between New York (JFK) and Johannesburg, South Africa. Read more

IATA Welcomes UN Confirmation of Safety of Japan Operations

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomed confirmation from six United Nations (UN) agencies monitoring Japan’s damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant that there is no health or transportation safety hazard. Read more

Airlines Rethink Japan Coverage

Airlines with operations throughout the Far East are reviewing their flights as a result of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan, a situation that has been compounded by the ongoing problems at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant. Read more

 

Updates to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport on the Horizon
