According to the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) in London, there are still some limited areas of ash concentration across Europe. However, these are expected to have very little or no impact on European air traffic in the coming 48 hours.

No airspace is currently closed due to volcanic ash. In total, around 900 flights were cancelled in Europe between Monday 23 May and Wednesday 25 May of a total of 90,000 expected flights.

There will be no further update unless volcanic ash has an impact on European air traffic.

At present, the volcanic activity has paused and only light ash levels remain in the air space. Travel-On will continue to monitor the situation and resume updates if volcanic ash impacts air travel.

How Do I Pay for a Seat Assignment/Better Seat Assignment?

Increasingly, many airlines are requiring a fee either for any pre-assigned seat or for what it considers a more desirable seat assignment. This can range from USAirways’ fee for a standard aisle or window near the front of the plane to United’s option for 5 inches more legroom by “upgrading” to an Economy Plus seat. Fees vary by airline and length of flight, and some airlines waive fees for elite level members of their frequent flyer program. Historically, paid-for seat assignments have been available only at the airport or during online check-in. However, some airlines are beginning to make more of these opportunities available in advance.

Travel-On agents are constrained by your company policy. If your company considers paid-for pre-assigned seating to be an unallowable expense we are not permitted to offer it. However, if requested, we will gladly assist you.

Travel-On can book virtually any element of your travel, including air, car, hotel, rail, sedan service, etc. When combined with an air or rail reservation, there is no additional fee to add any combination of hotel, car, and sedan service. But there are many benefits!

  • saves you time
  • takes advantage of our agents’ expertise
  • provides access to discounts beyond those of your own company
  • ensures support for those rare times when things don’t go as expected
  • provides a database of employee locations for emergencies
