Road Traffic Delays to/from LAX Airport – Los Angeles Freeway Closure July 15-18

The specific freeway closure boundaries are as follows:

  • Northbound I-405: 10-mile closure between I-10 and US 101
  • Southbound I-405: 4-mile closure between US 101 and Getty Center Drive Ramps

However, significant congestion is anticipated for motorists as they approach the exits from the primary arteries serving LAX Airport: the I-105 Century Freeway and the I-405 San Diego Freeway. Major surface streets leading to and from LAX Airport may also be congested.

The I-405 Freeway closure schedule is:

  • Friday, 15 July as early as 7pm: ramps and connectors to the freeway begin closing
  • Friday, 15 July as early as 10pm: freeway lanes begin closing to ensure full freeway closure at midnight
  • Saturday, 16 July at 12am (midnight): full freeway closure
  • Sunday, 17 July all day: full freeway closure
  • Monday, 18 July at 5am: freeway lanes begin opening
  • Monday, 18 July by 6am: ramps and connectors finish reopening

Plan ahead and allow yourself additional time for road travel to and from LAX Airport. Information is subject to change without notice. For general information regarding the project and road closures, visit metro.net. For related information updated by Los Angeles World Airports, visit lawa.org

Can I use my credit card overseas?

Most credit and debit cards issued in the U.S. still rely on magnetic strips to store information. Many foreign countries have moved to a “chip and pin” system. In these countries many retailers use newer scanning machines that cannot process magnetic strip cards. If asked, most will have old-fashioned swipe machines that can be used instead. However, that option doesn’t exist at unmanned kiosks such as toll booths, parking payment machines, train stations, etc. This can cause an inconvenience as many of these kiosks do not accept cash. Several U.S. based banks now offer “chip and pin” cards. If you travel overseas frequently talk to your company about getting one.

Putting Baggage Fees into Context

Remember how Delta was criticized for all the bag fee revenue it earned? When put in context, it’s not that bad! The DOT finally released the rest of the 2010 financial data. Personally, I believe finding how much of total revenue comes from baggage fees is the better than looking at the total number. The other thing I’m wondering is how many bags carried by the legacy airlines are carried for free through credit card deals, elite status, etc. Read more
