United States - Occupy Movement Protests Dec. 17

The Occupy Wall Street movement has called for protests and marches Dec. 17 in major US cities to mark the three-month anniversary of the beginning of the movement. Some organizers plan to use the day to "re-occupy" sites from which police have evicted tent camps. Other organizers aim to set up camps in new public locations, or vacant buildings. Large crowds could disrupt transportation near protest sites and traffic delays are possible. Expect an increased police presence near rallies. OWS organizers pledged to keep demonstrations peaceful, though there have been clashes with police, especially when authorities moved to disperse crowds or remove tents. The following locations are likely to have the most significant demonstrations:

• Boston, Mass.: Boston Common
• Chicago, Ill.: Federal Reserve Bank
• Los Angeles, Calif.: City Hall
• New York City: Juan Pablo Duarte Square
• Oakland, Calif.: City Hall and/or Ogawa Plaza
• Philadelphia, Pa.: Dilworth Plaza and/or Thomas Paine Plaza
• Portland, Ore.: South Park Blocks, SW Park and Salmon
• San Francisco, Calif.: Federal Reserve Bank
• Seattle, Wash.: Pike Place Market
• Washington, DC: McPherson Square

Tropical storm 27W has been predicted to intensify to minimal typhoon strength with winds of 65 knots (~75 mph) before moving over the southern Philippines in the next couple days.
