I Want To Have My 7-Year-Old Son Fly Out and Join Me at the End of My Business Trip. Can He Fly Alone?

The rules governing unaccompanied minors vary from airline to airline so you will want to check with your airline to be certain. In general though, most airlines permit children 5 and up to fly alone on domestic non-stop flights with some restrictions. For example, unaccompanied minors cannot travel alone on the last flight of the day. Trips requiring connections usually must wait until the child is a bit older, anywhere from 8 to 15 depending on the carrier. Nearly all airlines charge an additional fee for escorting the child.

That Samoa Will Skip Dec. 30th?

The South Pacific nation of Samoa is bending time. Located about halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand and a mere 20 miles from the international dateline - the imaginary, highly arbitrary boundary that designates where each calendar day begins - Samoa is skipping Friday, Dec. 30 as it moves west of the dateline to facilitate business dealings with Australia and New Zealand.
