United States - Occupy Movement Marches in New York CityProtesters belonging to the Occupy Wall Street movement will stage a series of marches and other protest actions across Manhattan throughout the weekend of Jan. 15 -16. On Jan. 15, protesters will congregate at 7:00p at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine before marching 1,000 meters (3,281 feet) northwest to Riverside Church, located in New York's Upper West Side neighborhood. On Jan. 16, organizers expect the protesters to march approximately 2,300 feet (700 m) from the African Burial Ground National Monument to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in lower Manhattan. Localized traffic disruptions and an increased security presence are likely around the march routes and destinations. Europe - Occupy Demonstrations Jan. 15Anti-austerity activists supporting the "Indignant" and "Occupy Wall Street" movements will protest in several cities across Europe on Jan. 15. Previous demonstrations remained peaceful and minimally disruptive. The following cities will likely see rallies:
Italy - Taxi Driver Demonstration in Rome Jan. 14Taxi drivers are planning to stage a mass demonstration in Rome Jan. 14 to protest plans to liberalize their sector. The drivers have announced their intent to block traffic near the Circus Maximus in central Rome, but have not yet revealed the time of their action. Significant traffic disruptions are likely during the event; police will probably detour traffic around the protesting taxi drivers. The demonstration is a precursor to a nationwide strike by the taxi drivers on Jan. 23. Wintry Weather in Midwest and NotheastTravel is highly discouraged from the Ohio Valley to northern New England today and tonight. "This is a pretty potent storm and covers a wide area," NBC TODAY's weather anchor Al Roker warned.
