Q and A

What is the difference between a non-stop flight and a direct flight?

There are three basic types of flights: non-stop, direct, and connecting. A non-stop flight is one that makes no intermediate stops before you arrive at your destination. Example - get on a flight in Dulles and the plane comes down in San Francisco, your final destination. A direct flight is one that makes a stop, but there is no change of planes or flight numbers involved, and passengers booked to the final destination may or may not be permitted to get off the plane during the intermediate stop. An example would be flight from Dulles to San Francisco with an intermediate stop in Chicago to let some passengers off and pick up others. A connecting flight is one where a change of planes and flight numbers is involved. For example, to get from Dulles to San Francisco you might take flight 100 as far as Chicago and then get off and change to flight 200 to continue on to San Francisco.
