Asia – Muslims to Celebrate Eid al-Adha

Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) Oct. 4-6. The festival is a national holiday in predominantly Muslim countries and some with sizable Muslim minorities, such as the Philippines. Government offices and some businesses may close for 2-4 days; foreign embassies may also close for the holiday. The holiday dates vary slightly by country; though most Muslim countries will celebrate on Oct. 4-5, festivities will take place Oct. 5-6 in Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, and Pakistan. Transport disruptions are likely, since many people take vacations or return to their hometowns during the holiday. Expect increased traffic congestion on major highways.
