Greece – Air Traffic Control Strike

Greek air traffic controllers are set to go on strike October 4 and 5, in protest at the use of airport charges. While the extent of worker participation is still unclear, the industrial action could force airports to close nationwide if not averted, potentially suspending both domestic and international routes. Flights scheduled outside the strike period could also face delays, as airlines attempt to reschedule canceled services. Previous Greek ATC strikes have been ruled illegal before the date of the planned action, and an emergency court ruling could still prevent the strike for safety reasons. Prepare for severe flight disruptions in Greece Oct. 4-5; delays may extend into Oct. 6 as the backlog in canceled flights is cleared.
