Japan and China – Typhoon Fitow

Category 1 Typhoon Fitow continues to track northward in the Philippine Sea and is expected to intensify. Forecasts indicate that the storm will turn westward as it approaches Japan’s Ryukyu Islands, passing south of Okinawa Oct. 5 and entering the East China Sea. The storm is then predicted to weaken somewhat over the East China Sea, but will remain either a typhoon or a strong tropical storm as it makes landfall in Zhejiang Province, China Oct. 7. Flash flooding and storm surge flooding are likely throughout the Ryukyu Islands and outer rain bands of the system will likely bring rain and windy conditions to Taiwan. Strong winds, heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and storm surge are likely along the eastern coast of China.
