Canada and United States – Storm in Eastern US and Canada

Forecasts indicate that a large storm system will track northward through the eastern US and Canada Nov. 26-28. Heavy rainfall, snow, freezing precipitation, and strong winds have the potential to cause substantial travel delays across the storm system’s path. Locations east of the Appalachian Mountains will mostly receive heavy rainfall and strong winds; similar impacts are possible in the Canadian Maritimes. Conditions could produce flash, urban, and coastal flooding, along with low cloud ceilings and poor visibility in these areas. Moderate to heavy snowfall, icing, and freezing precipitation are possible in the Appalachian Mountains, along with locations bordering the range, from northern Georgia to Vermont. The storm will mostly impact locations in the US from early Nov. 26 through Nov. 27, and in Canada Nov 27-28. Airports in the eastern US and Canada will likely experience substantial storm-related disruptions through at least Nov. 27. Delays at major hubs could have a cascade effect on airline networks and result in delays at airports not in the storm system’s path, including Chicago’s Midway and O’Hare airports. Low cloud ceilings, strong winds, and rain will probably cause delays at the following high-volume airports: Atlanta, BWI, Boston, Charlotte, John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, Newark , Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Dulles, Reagan National, Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal.
