India – Cyclone Lehar

Tropical Cyclone Lehar has begun to weaken as it continues to move west-northwestward through the Bay of Bengal and is expected to weaken further , but will maintain tropical cyclone strength for the forecast landfall southwest of Kakinada early Nov. 28. The storm will weaken rapidly after making landfall, but could still bring periods of heavy rainfall and high wind gusts to parts of northwestern Andhra Pradesh, eastern Maharashtra, and southern Chattisgarh states through Nov. 29. Flash flooding is likely with landslides possible. Storm surge of up to 9 feet could occur in coastal areas, and at least 150,000 people have been evacuated from east and west Godavari districts.
