Germany- Lufthansa Cabin Crew to Launch 24-Hour Strike Sept. 7

"Lufthansa has canceled two-thirds of all flights scheduled for Sept. 7 since cabin crew members announced a nationwide 24-hour strike for that day over an ongoing pay dispute. The airline has canceled short-, medium- and long-haul flights. The union organizing the industrial action stated that the upcoming work stoppage would affect Berlin's Tegel, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, and Stuttgart airports. Severe flight disruptions and hundreds of cancellations are possible at any and all of the 16 airports where Lufthansa operates flights across Germany. Residual delays are likely even after the strike ends as Lufthansa clears its flight backlog. Flights on Lufthansa's regional airline alliance network will not be affected. Though the union staged two previous strikes Sept. 4 and Aug. 31, the Sept. 7 actions are a significant escalation of the strike.

Italy - Meridiana Fly Pilot Strike Sept. 7

Pilots for Meridiana Fly are planning to stage a 24-hour strike Sept. 7 at airports across Italy. The industrial action will likely cause flight delays and cancellations. The airline's main hubs include Cagliari-Elmas, Milan Malpensa, and Rome Fiumicino airports. According to Italian law, minimal services must be guaranteed during any industrial action. Regardless, disruptions are possible and will most likely affect domestic and short-haul flights originating in Italy.

Bermuda - Leslie Intensifies to Hurricane Status

Forecasters expect Hurricane Leslie will make a very close approach to Bermuda - or even make landfall - by late Sept. 8. So far, authorities on Bermuda have not issued any watches or warnings beyond a small craft advisory. Meteorologists believe the storm will continue to intensify and could reach strong Category 2 or even Category 3 status by Sept. 8. Expect strong winds and heavy rain on the island starting early Sept. 8. Storm surge is likely along the southern and western shores. Leslie will probably cause transport, commercial, and utility disruptions in Bermuda. Anticipate flight disruptions and cruise ship cancellations as the storm approaches.

France - Corsair Strike Sept. 7-9

A coalition of French unions announced that Corsair cabin crew and staff will stage a strike Sept. 7-9 over working conditions. The airline's management is attempting to minimize flight disruptions. Flight cancellations are unlikely, but minimal flight delays could occur at the airlines hub at Orly Airport in Paris.
