  • Australia has both vertical and horizontal time zones during the summer
  • Prior to 1995 the International Date Line split the country of Kiribati so that the eastern part was a full day ahead of the western portion
  • Not all countries that observe Daylight Savings Time shift at the same time; for example, the U.S. shifts on the 2nd Sunday in March while Europe waits until the last Sunday in March
  • Mongolia and China each use one time zone for the entire country
  • The South Pole uses New Zealand’s time zone and the International Space Station uses Greenwich Mean Time
  • Arizona does not observe Daylight Savings Time, however the Navajo Reservation located within Arizona does, and the Hopi Reservation which is located within the Navajo Reservation does not
